Live Updates: Seemandhra Elections


It's an alpha-election tomorrow for Seemandhra, the regions that will, starting June 2, form the downsized state of Andhra Pradesh. Voters will pick 25 parliamentarians and 175 state law-makers in an election that is largely a contest between two regional powerhouses -the veteran Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan Mohan Reddy, whose fledgling party derives considerable strength and popularity from the legacy of his famous father, YSR, who died in 2009 while he was chief minister. We Will Win More Than 150 Seats: YS Bharati YSR Congress Party chief Jaganmohan Reddy's wife YS Bharati has casted her vote in Pulivendula, Kadapa. Bharati came along with Sharmila and both of them expressed their confidence that YSRCP will win more than 150 seats in Seemandhra. 

YS Jagan Casts His Vote in Pulivendula YSR Congress Party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy has casted his vote in Pulivendula just now. Jagan is contesting as MLA from Pulivendula and his relative Avinash Reddy is contesting as an MP from Kadapa. Both Jagan and Avinash have casted their votes in Pulivendula. Sakshi Distributes Money in Paper: Chandrababu Telugu Desam Party chief Chandra Babu Naidu has alleged that YSR Congress Party has distributed 1000 rupees each to the people through Sakshi newspaper. Close to 500 crores were recovered by the police in Seemandhra and every political party is involved in money distribution. EVM's Become Headache to Voters Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) has become a big headache for the voters this time as well. In most of the places, EVM's aren't working fine and in some places, to whichever party people are voting, the vote is going to a single party. Election commissioner is supervising all the areas and he is receiving the updates from time to time. TDP Speculate Rumors on Shobha Nagireddy Telugu Desam Party leaders in Allagadda, Kurnool have started to speculate rumors. TDP leaders are telling to the voters that their vote will be wasted if they cast it to Shobha Nagireddy of YSRCP. Shobha Nagireddy has died in a road accident recently and her name is still included in the list. Complaint against Balakrishna in Hindupur YSRCP leaders in Hindupur have complained to election commissioner that Telugu Desam Party MLA candidate Nandamuri Balakrishna's people are distributing T-Shirts that has Sr NTR in Sri Krishna get up. Election commissioner is yet to take up the complaint. Mohan Babu and Vishnu Cast Vote in Tirupathi Collection King Dr. Mohan Babu and his son Manchu Vishnu have casted their votes in Tirupathi. Mohan Babu's mother was also present at the polling booth with the help of others and casted her vote in the same polling booth. 

Kadapa Tops in Polling Percent within first 2 hours Kadapa district has topped in Seemandhra so far in the polling percentage. 19 percent of Kadapa voters have casted their votes so far and the turnouts are reportedly high across all the districts in Seemandhra. Other districts are as follows     Kurnool, Krishna, Srikakulam, West Godavari:18%, Nellore 17%, Prakasam and East Godavari: 16%, Chittor: 15%, Vizag: 14% and Vizianagaram: 13%. Police House Arrest Paritala Sriram Paritala Ravi and Sunitha's son Paritala Sriram has been house arrested by Ananthapur police. Sriram is at his house in Venkatapuram and the cops have got strict orders not to release him till the elections are completed. It's a Clean Sweep For YSRCP: YS Jagan After casting his vote, YS Jagan interacted with media and said that his party won't be in any hurry to support national parties after the elections. Jagan said that YSRCP will clean sweep in this elections and all his candidates will win with a record majority. Jagan added that his priority is Seemandhra's development and he would go to any extent for the sake of Telugu people. 

Jagan said that the way bifurcation was done, has hurted him a lot. 20 injured in clashes during Andhra polls Around 20 people were Wednesday injured in clashes between activists of rival parties in some districts of Andhra Pradesh during the Lok Sabha polls, officials said. Six people were injured in a clash between YSR Congress Party and Telugu Desam Party activists in Parachur in Prakasam district. Three police vehicles were damaged in an attack by villagers in Devagudi in Jammalamadugu of Kadapa district. A police officer was also injured in the attack. Clashes between activists of the two parties were also reported from Anantapur, Chittoor and Guntur districts. 

The details of the others who were injured was not immediately known. Director General of Police Prasada Rao said polling was peaceful barring minor incidents in some places. Over 100,000 police personnel and 272 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed as part of the security arrangements. 63% voting in Seemandhra by 3 pm Over 63% polling was recorded till 3 PM in Seemandhra on Wednesday as impressive voter turnout was witnessed in several parts of the region, official sources said. Barring sporadic incidents of clashes between workers of YSRCP and TDP and alleged attacks on policemen in Rayalaseema districts, polling has been largely peaceful, they said.
